Van Do-Reynoso, MPH, PhD
Public Health Director, Santa Barbara County

Van Do-Reynoso has extensive experience in public health and health care in California and Mexico. She is active in local, state and national health equity efforts. Her experiences growing up in the US as a Vietnamese refugee have led her to value kindness, integrity, and education. Dr. Do-Reynoso believes that in partnership we can achieve a healthier community for everyone. Dr. Do-Reynoso will provide an update on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Santa Barbara County, as well efforts by the health department and other partners to safeguard community health.

 

Melissa Smith, M.D.
Director of Health Equity Initiatives, UCSB

Melissa Smith is a family medicine physician and Director of Health Equity Initiatives at UC Santa Barbara, where she co- teaches a seminar called “Innovations in Health Equity Research: Participatory Action with Communities.” In addition to having a clinical position in the Santa Maria Health Care Center of the Santa Barbara County Department of Public Health, she is involved in collaborative efforts to address health concerns of Latinx and indigenous migrants in Santa Barbara County. Dr. Smith will discuss the cross-sectoral collaborative efforts of the recently formed Latinx and Indigenous Migrant COVID-19 Response Task Force.
