Professor Bullo’s webinar overviews and compares various models for the propagation of infectious diseases.  Starting from the pre-existing literature on mathematical epidemiology, the talk reviews some current influential models for the propagation of COVID-19.

Francesco Bullo is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with additional affiliations with Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and the Center for Control, Dynamical Systems, and Computation. The author of more than 300 papers in international journals, books, and refereed conferences, his research studies dynamic phenomena that arise in science and in technology. Inspired by animal behavior, he has studied the mathematics explaining the emerging behavior of bird flocks and fish swarms.  He has engineered coordinated behaviors for power grids and robotic coordination. Similar ideas explain how opinions evolve under social influence in human social networks.
