The UCSB Data Science Capstone — specifically, the capstone project sponsored by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) — was featured in a story on Research and Development by UC Santa Barbara Giving. PwC’s project explored the field of model compression, and generated a white paper and presentation from the students. The story highlights how the capstone project provided benefits to both the student participants and the industry sponsor. “This project was great,” writes Robert Bernard, the PwC liaison. “… I started off knowing a little bit more than the students did. Bu the end, they nlew me away. I learned so much from them.”

The story also includes snippets from Yan Laschev, who was then a senior in PSTAT and is now pursuing his MS at UCSB, and from Erika McPhillips, who was the TA advising the project.
