Apply for an Undergraduate Data Science Fellowship for 2022-2023

Collaboration The Central Coast Data Science Partnership welcomes applications for fellowships in data science at UC Santa Barbara during the 2022-2023 academic year. Selected students will receive a $5,000 stipend as they serve as ambassadors for the campus's blossoming data science program. Faculty anticipate 9 awards to be made in 2022, with fellowships funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation's Harnessing the Data Revolution program.

All data science fellows will be paired with faculty mentors and will be enrolled in a year-long capstone class exploring the life-cycle of data. The capstone sequence, cross-listed between the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability, brings undergraduates face-to-face with real-world data science problems through projects sponsored by local industry and research labs.

Fellows also foster their local data science community through outreach activities and work with local data science institutions, nonprofits, and companies. An overall goal is to help build a pipeline between the three institutions of higher education in California: the Community Colleges, the California State University, and the University of California.

For more information about the fellowships, and to submit an online application, visit https://centralcoastdatascience.org/fellowships.

Demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of data science, program faculty encourage undergraduates from all majors to apply. Underrepresented minorities, women, and individuals from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Please note, however, that fellowships are only available to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents. The application deadline is April 7, 2022.
